SIISH

Accelerating the implementation of innovation in Swedish healthcare

About the project

SIISH is a national collaboration aiming to shorten the time it takes for new life science innovations to be implemented within the Swedish healthcare system. The initiative brings together seven regions with university hospitals, innovation offices and incubators across Sweden. It is led by Västra Götalandsregionen, Gothia Forum and Innovationsplattformen (VGR).

Purpose

Through interdisciplinary collaboration, SIISH will identify barriers, highlight opportunities and propose concrete solutions to accelerate the adoption of innovation in healthcare. The long-term vision is to ensure a more sustainable, accessible and high-quality healthcare system for all.

Short description

Sweden faces major healthcare challenges: an ageing population, increasing care needs and a shortage of healthcare professionals. At the same time, Sweden has strong innovative capacity that is not fully utilised in clinical practice. To address this gap, SIISH will gather experts from multiple perspectives to evaluate current processes, share best practices and explore new structures for collaboration between innovation-support organisations.
The project therefore aims to:
  • Identify and analyse regional barriers and success factors to improve processes for innovation adoption
  • Develop new, integrated collaboration structures linking incubators, hospitals and innovation offices more effectively
  • Create a valuation model to support healthcare decision-makers in assessing whether to implement new innovations
  • Engage in dialogue with policymakers to ensure innovation becomes a strategic priority in future healthcare planning
The project will develop recommendations for decision-makers and strengthen the role of innovation as a strategic component in Swedish healthcare.
The project is funded by Vinnova through Swelife.
