Pre-study on best practice in capital support within innovation ecosystems
About the project
This pre-study aims to clarify and address differences and specific challenges that lead SMEs in Life Sciences and deep tech to experience difficulties in securing funding across their various development stages.
The project is led by SmiLe Venture Hub and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERUF) through the Swedish Agency for Economic (Tillväxtverket) and Regional Growth and Region Skåne.
Purpose
As many of the life science and deep tech companies have a high-risk profile and long development timelines, the need for capital is significant from idea to commercial success. The objective is to develop concepts that strengthen financing conditions throughout the entire development chain. The aim is to create a robust structure that contributes to faster market introduction of innovations in deep tech and life sciences, thereby benefiting more patients.
Short description
The pre-study addresses the following key questions: What projects exist or have been implemented in this area? How can initiatives be scaled up, complemented, and aligned with needs in relation to ongoing initiatives and activities? Which organisations and key individuals should be engaged and connected to the project? What specific support needs do startups in life sciences and deep tech have regarding access to capital?
The objective is to develop concepts that strengthen financing conditions throughout the entire development pathway. These concepts will be tested and further developed in an implementation project together with project partners and startups. The overall aim is to establish a robust structure that contributes to faster market introduction of innovations in deep tech and life sciences, thereby benefiting more patients.
